Comments submitted during the year :

1/2019: ALPINE, KA7AJQ, Sheila Clement: 2019 January Alpine/Douglas ARES Comment Douglas County Amateur Radio Team (DCART) members reported time for the following activities: nets, meeting, taking and giving classes, studying digital modes (FLdigi and Winlink), packet operations, working on and programming radio equipment, working with nets and radio equipment at the hospitals and Nevada Division of Emergency Management, planning for the June Pony Express Reride through Nevada (KE7NCJ), and the Tonopah NV ARES Leadership meeting (KD7NHC and N7TNX) . The ARES Connect process is in place though we are working through a lot of questions. Members should establish your accounts, sign up for events and keep me posted on how things are going. DCART welcomes new member Tom Seeley, W4FLL. We will update our membership listings within a couple of weeks. DCART does not have a web site just now. We are looking into setting up one through the County. Sheila Clement, KA7AJQ ARES Emergency Coordinator Alpine and Douglas Counties Alpine County

2/2019: ALPINE, KA7AJQ, Sheila Clement: 2019 February Alpine/Douglas ARES Comment DCART (Douglas County Amateur Radio Team) members again had great project time reports for February. Hours came from support of Nevada Division of Emergency Management communications and their conference for Emergency Preparedness, participation in hospital and other nets, local training classes, including the formal class at Western Nevada College, maintaining our ham station at 911 and our home stations. Winlink, packet, and FLdigi modes continue to be topics for our members' training efforts. Our Douglas County 911 Emergency Services Director has planned our ham station relocation, still in the 911 building. We will have our own office with provision for all our radio equipment. Our DEC held a meeting in Carson for northwest Nevada ECs so we could review our ARES Connect operations and plan for a field exercise. Sheila Clement, KA7AJQ ARES Emergency Coordinator Alpine and Douglas Counties

Ellithorp: During the Glenn County Active Shooter Exercise and Redundant Communications Drill on 16 February 2019, Glenn ARES was asked to demonstrate local VHF simplex and repeater voice communications from different locations within Glenn county. For the second part of this demonstration we were asked to use the Winlink System from different locations in Glenn County to pass message traffic, by VHF radio, to email accounts and cell phones, belonging to Glenn County OES staff. This demonstration was a success; allowing Glenn ARES to show and prove that we can be used as back-up communications should other means of communications fail in Glenn County.
